Vanessa Fernandez is an artist-producer, who’s released soul/electronic music, managed radio stations and believes in positively shaping culture through music.

At age 12 she won a national talent competition with friends from her church choir, then started performing in musicals with the Singapore Repertory Theatre Young Company at 16. At 18 she was part of hip-hop groups, Urban Xchange (later re-branded Parking Lot Pimp), signed to Universal Music & the now-defunct EMI Southeast Asia. After a break from music to complete a diploma in Mass Communication, graduating with merit from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, she joined commercial hit radio station, 987FM from 2006-2010. Following a 2-year stint in Los Angeles, during which the Vandetta EP was made & released, she returned to Singapore and became Programme Director of Lush99.5fm, where she honed her skills in branding, marketing & culture development through music & media. She has also released three audiophile albums with Groove Note Records, “Use Me”, “When The Levee Breaks” and “I Want You”. In 2018, Vanessa was featured in Singapore’s National Day theme song video “We Are Singapore” and also sung the National Anthem at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix 2018.

Known in the music scene for her commitment to championing Singapore music, she has also produced the Hear65 (Singapore Showcase) at Australian music conference/festival, BIGSOUND (2016, 2018, 2019), and ran the Noise Music Mentorship for the National Arts Council in 2018/19.

As the artist, Vandetta, she has performed at festivals such the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Festival (France), Laneway Festival (Singapore), BIGSOUND (Australia), V-ROX (Russia), Concrete & Grass Festival (China). and released music on Syndicate, Medallion Sounds, as well as her imprint, Ownself Records. Other musical side projects include Octover, Vandemons and Soulful Ghosts
